Affordable Housing Policy
California is facing a critical housing shortage. Gabriel Fernandez supports the implementation of SB 9 to increase housing supply and lower costs, alongside other bold, common-sense solutions that speed up production and ensure that every Californian has a safe, dignified place to call home.
Increasing Supply Through Zoning Reform
- Streamline permissions for multi-family units and transit-oriented developments.
- Expand the 'By-Right' housing process to fast-track affordable projects.
- Incentivize 'missing middle' housing like duplexes and townhomes.
Protecting Renters and Homeowners
- Strengthen statewide protections against unjust evictions and predatory rent hikes.
- Expand programs helping working families build generational wealth.
- Invest in preserving existing affordable housing stocks.
Direct Investment in Social Housing
- Establish a State Housing Fund to finance mixed-income public developments.
- Utilize vacant state-owned land for rapid low-income housing production.
- Partner with non-profits to create supportive housing for unhoused neighbors.
